The department is
responsible for providing information and recommendations to the
Council, implementing council policies, and guiding the day-to-day
management of the City. The City Manager provides direct supervision
to all of the City Department Heads, except the City Attorney, a
separate council appointed official. Administration also oversees the
Community Promotions Program which recommends grants to organizations promoting cultural,
economic or recreational services within the City and helps develop the Citys
tourism attraction program.
The department is responsible for coordinating the City’s economic
development efforts and assuring the identification and protection
of open space and natural and biological resources in and around the
City. In addition, the department is involved in a wide variety of
special projects such as serving as liaison to the Downtown
Association, enforcing the City’s anti-smoking ordinance and, along
with Cal Poly University and the Foundation for the Performing Arts,
management of the
Performing Arts Center.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
(ARRA) of 2009 is intended to provide a stimulus to the U.S. economy
in response to the national economic downturn. The City has been
active in seeking assistance through various Federal programs and
affiliated state agencies. This webpage
will be updated periodically to keep citizens informed on grants
submitted under ARRA by the City.
The City Manager's office likes to know how things are going. We have a
How Are We Doing? survey which can be sent to our
office. All letters of commendation from citizens are displayed on the People
Serving People board at City Hall, and published in an internal newsletter.
