No, the County-Clerk Recorders Office handles all vital
statistics. Contact them at (805) 781-5080.

Does the City Clerk issue Business Licenses?
A:
No, but the City Finance Department does. For more information
regarding business licenses, access the Finance & Information
Technology page on the City's website or call (805) 781-7134.
Q:
How can I find out what matters are being considered by the City
Council?
A:
The City Clerk can provide this information to you in a number of
ways: 1) you can view the agenda
on this website; 2) the agenda is posted outside City Hall at 990
Palm Street; 3) notices of public hearings and the agenda are
published in the San Luis Obispo Telegram-Tribune; and 4)
you can dial (805) 781-7107 to hear a recording of what matters will
be before the City Council at their next meeting.

How often does the City Council meet?
A:
The City Council holds its Regular Meetings on the first, second and third
Tuesdays of every month. Other adjourned meetings are scheduled as
City business necessitates.

When are elections held in the City?
A:
Regular municipal elections are held every even numbered year in
November.
Q:
What are the legal qualifications a candidate for Mayor or City
Council must possess?
A:
State law and the Citys Charter provide that candidates must be
registered voters and residents of the City of San Luis Obispo.
Q:
Do the Mayor and Council Members receive monetary compensation?
A:
Yes. The Mayor receives $1,200 monthly and each member of the
Council receives $1,000 per month. In addition, expenses incurred for
Council-approved business are reimbursed, including mileage and
